Fashion students stun audience with an accomplished and varied collection.

Competition fi nalists from Edinburgh College of Art, Nottingham Trent University, Winchester College of Art – Southampton University and the University of Wales, Newport were asked to design a garment for the catwalk made from a minimum of 60% British alpaca and maximum of 40% any other material. They were then matched with 25 British alpaca breeders who generously provided all the alpaca materials from fl eece to fabric.

“The schedule was extremely tight on the day,” said organiser Caroline Trotter. “We relied on the punctuality of the designers and their models as we had only two windows of opportunity in which to rehearse in the lecture theatre.


“They did not let us down and by 8.15am we began


our fi rst run through and to say it was a disaster is no exaggeration! Many of the models had no experience of the catwalk and the designers struggled with their presentations. We had three hours to turn this around and it is a testament to the professionalism of the youngsters that they did just this.”
