he most highly anticipated event in the alpaca industry’s calendar took place at Keble College in Oxford from 10-12 April. Raising more than £7400 for nominated charity Amantani UK, the


World Alpaca Conference was an outstanding success with delegates full of praise for the breathtaking venue, the wide ranging lecture and workshop programmes and the glittering social events. The conference brought together some of the world’s leading authorities on alpacas, making it the largest concentration of expertise the UK has ever seen. Good representation from overseas ensured this was


a truly international event and the beautiful surroundings – particularly the spectacular dining hall – offered delegates a relaxed environment in which to discuss the latest information and research from across the alpaca world.


Trade stands were busy throughout and both lectures and workshops saw plenty of debate, with experts inviting participation at every opportunity. One of the highlights of the conference was a spectacular fashion show which saw 14 university students present their fi nal designs for the catwalk – the results were truly stunning (see page 29 for a full report) with many fresh new approaches to working with alpaca fi bre.


The champagne reception and gala dinner were equally well received and there were some very happy recipients of the charity raffl e draw which included over £5000 of prizes.
