Cinedeck has released version 3.5 software for its RX and EX external record systems. The v3.5 release provides increased codec support, including DNxHD 444, DVCPro HD, DPX, XDCAM EX-1440, AVC-Intra, MPEG-IMX, JFIF Meridien, H.264 capture and playback, and Nanoflash MXF playback. The software also includes Cinedeck’s new 3D stereo visualisation tools for on-set play- back and for checking 3D stereo material as soon as it has been shot. The software is available as a free download for existing EX and RX users.

MATROX UPDATES I/O RANGE
Matrox has updated its I/O products to support Adobe’s Creative Suite 6 software and Adobe Mercury Transmit. Release 7.0 for Matrox MXO2 I/O devices and Mojito Max for Windows, and release 3.1 for Mac OS, are available as free downloads. Matrox product manager Wayne Andrews said the release would provide users with “rock- solid performance, greater editing speed and precision”.
SONNET INCREASES CONNECTIVITY
Sonnet Technologies has unveiled the Echo ExpressCard Thunderbolt adapter. The adapter enables the use of Sonnet Express- Card/34 cards with computers equipped with a Thunderbolt port to function as an SxS memory card reader. Sonnet said SxS memory cards share the same form factor and connector as ExpressCard/34 adapter cards, which makes ingesting footage from

Gekko has announced the latest addition to its Karesslite range of fixtures, the Karess 2006. Measuring 30cm x 10cm, the light is designed for use on location or as a studio fixture. Available as either a tungsten (3200K) or daylight (5600K) fixture, the light will ship in June for £650.
PANASONIC ADDS CAMCORDER
Panasonic has unveiled a new camcorder aimed at news and sports productions. The AG-HPX600 (below) is a P2 HD camera with 10-bit, 422 AVC Intra recording. The camera has a newly developed 2/3-type MOS sensor and supports AVC- Intra100/50, DVCPro HD, DVCPro50, DVCPro and DV. A future option will allow LiveU video uplink with real-time indi- cation of LiveU’s transmission status and video transmission quality to a camera operator. The AG- HPX600 will be available in the fourth quar- ter of the year for $16,000 (£10,000) for the body or $18,000 (£11,000) with the AG- CVF10 colour viewfinder.
BLACKMAGIC CONJURES CAMERA
Blackmagic Design has launched its first ever camera. The 2.5K device with 13 stops
was announced on 16 April. It supports the capture of 1080 HD resolution at up to 30fps and is compatible with Canon EF and Zeiss ZF mount lenses. Blackmagic said its camera could be used to shoot episodic television as well as high-end commercials and feature films. A built-in SSD recorder captures CinemaDNG RAW, Pro Res and DNxHD files. It also has a touchscreen for adding meta- data. A microphone and speaker are built in to the camera, which has external jack-based audio connections and a headphone socket, as well as embedded audio on the SDI output and Thunderbolt connection. The camera will be available in July for around £1,883.
CANON LAUNCHES EOS C500
Canon has revealed the EOS C500, a camera that will offer 4K RAW output and will be available with the manufacturer’s EF mount and PL mount. It follows the November launch of the EOS C300, which was the first camera in Canon’s Cinema EOS System range. The C500 will be based on the C300 but will support 4K RAW video capture and 444 sampling during 2K capture. The cam- era will shoot frame rates up to 120p in 4K and 2K resolution for high-speed video cap- ture in high resolution. The camera will be available from the autumn and will be priced at £20,000. Canon also plans to expand its range of EF and PL glass with four new zoom lenses. The expanded EF Cinema Lens series will include two wide-angle cinema zoom lenses, the CN-E15.5-47mm T2.8 L S (EF mount) and CN-E15.5-47mm T2.8 L SP (PL mount), alongside two telephoto cinema zoom lenses, the CN-E30- 105mm T2.8 L S (EF) and CN-E30-105mm T2.8 L SP (PL). The lenses will be avail-
able from September 2012. JVC TARGETS NEWSGATHERING
JVC has launched a newsgathering camera with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. The camcorder is equipped with dual codecs and produces full HD files on one memory card, while simultaneously recording smaller, web-friendly files to a second card. See Product Anatomy, page 12, for more information.
