HD HERO 2 GOES UNDERWATER

GoPro has released an underwater housing unit for its HD Hero camera, as well as a firmware upgrade that will boost the cam- era’s data rate and add the ability to shoot at 24fps. Protune – which was developed in conjunction with Technicolor Cinestyle – is a camera mode that GoPro said will lead to a more efficient workflow. In a bid to reduce compression artefacts, the camera’s data rate will be increased from 15Mbps to 35Mbps, while the ability to shoot at 24fps is intended to make it easier to intercut footage shot on a GoPro device with other sources. A neu- tral colour profile will allow for greater lati- tude through the col- our correction process.

The free firmware upgrade will only be avail- able for the HD Hero 2, not the earlier HD Hero device. The Dive Housing unit features a large, flat glass lens, which GoPro said would allow for “maximum photo and video sharpness underwater in all resolutions”.
