PRODUCT ANATOMY JVC GY-HM650


JVC’s latest newsgathering camera comes with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, which the manufacturer says will allow news teams to deliver footage without the need for a microwave or satellite connection. The camcorder is also equipped with dual


codecs and produces full HD fi les on one memory card, while another simultaneously captures smaller ‘web-friendly’ fi les. Including the battery, the camera weighs 2.45kg. The GY-HM650 will be available by the end of the year for £3,652 ($5,695). In


addition to the GY-HM650, JVC also launched the GY-HM600, a device with similar features to the GY-HM650 but without the Wi-Fi connectivity. The GY-HM600 will ship in the third quarter of the year.


AUDIO


The GY-HM650 has a built-in stereo microphone for capturing natural sound on location and two XLR inputs with phantom power and a shotgun mic holder, as well as a headphone jack and separate input for a wireless mic receiver.


DISPLAY AND POWER


The 16:9 colour LCD measures 3.5 inches and displays 920K pixels. The camera has a 0.45-inch 16:9 viewfi nder with 1.2 megapixels. Power is supplied by a DC 12V (AC adaptor) or a DC 7.2V battery. With variable focus and the LCD monitor in use, its power consumption is approximately 12w.


SENSOR


The GY-HM650 has three 1/3-inch 1920 x 1080 12-bit CMOS sensors.
