GILROY

A Week of Downtown Dining Options by Melanie Corona

T

he variety of dining options in Downtown Gilroy is enough to suit any palate. Looking for a place to have an inexpensive and delicious lunch? There are plenty of

places to choose from. Try Dragonfly Coffee Roasting Company on Monday

and discover that owner Phillip Willis is serving up more than just delicious drinks. Their turkey and pesto on ciabatta bread is to-die-for delicious and easy on the pocketbook for just $4.00! On Tuesday, stop by Station 55 to see Fran and Bobby to

try their cheeseburger and fries. Ask for the onions to be grilled on your burger for an extra flavorful treat! Check out Garlic City Cafe on Wednesday and try their fantastic Cream of Garlic soup. Feeling really hun- gry? Pair the soup with their grilled veggie sandwich…filling and easy on the waist-line as well. If you’re in a hurry on

Thursday, try the drive-thru at BBQ 152 for their tri-tip salad, topped with bleu cheese, candied pecans and fresh blackberries. The pulled pork sandwich is delicious too! To celebrate Friday, go see Adam Sanchez at The Milias for a martini and one of their incredible Friday specials. And Saturday and Sunday, try a super burrito at Carnitas

Michocan or a margarita and camarones al mojo de ajo plate at Cielito Lindo. You won’t be sorry, although you may have to rev up your workout come Monday. There’s so much to do (and eat); join us Downtown and see what you’ve been miss- ing!

Join us for our Ribbon Cutting ceremony on April 27 at

5:30 pm at our new office space (7780 Monterey Street). We will be honoring Dave Peoples of The Nimble Thimble/ Garlic City Mercantile for his years of service and dedication to the Downtown. Don’t forget the 2012 GDBA Art and Wine Stroll will

take place on May 19 from 2-6 pm in Downtown. Tickets are on sale now for $25 at participating businesses, the Chamber of Commerce, the Gilroy Welcome Center and the GDBA Office.

Return of the Farmers Market and More Art by Sylvia Wallace Myrvold

H

ave you missed the Spice of LIfe Farmers Market in Gilroy? Well, get your reuseable bags ready because it’s coming back again, opening on Mother’s Day, once

again on the corner of Seventh and Eigleberry Streets in Downtown Gilroy. Come to the market between 10am and 1pm every Sunday morning and see what our local farmers are producing. The market will also have vendors with hand- crafted goods and there will be some food booths selling ready to eat goodies, so bring your appetite too. This year, market organizers are also planning great month-

ly celebrations, including Kids Day on the first Sunday of every month, with special activities set up to entertain the kids. In honor of Mothers’ Day, May 13, the first one hundred

moms will receive a traditional carnation. Take your mom out to any one of the downtown restuarants for a Mother’s Day brunch or breakfast and then bring her to the Farmer’s Market for a stroll and a little shopping. She’ll love you for it. Not to be forgotten, on Fathers’ Day the market will have

a special event featuring tractors, tools and trucks! Then in honor of the Great Gilroy Garlic Festival, plan on a day of Fun with Garlic on July 22. The organizers have also told me they have some fun

planned for the later months, but don’t have all the details yet. So, just a little peak into what you can expect: August 19 will the a community fundraising day, September 16 we can all enter the Harvest Contest and October 21 will be Health Day. Look for more information about the market and their events right here in Out & About every month.

eanwhile, inside the Center for the Arts, GAA is working on their May/June exhibit, The Art of Our Mothers and

Fathers. The idea behind this exhibit is to honor the various ways our parents and grandparents expressed their artistic side, on canvas, paper, sculpture, wood and even dried lima beans. This is your chance to honor your parent, (we stretch this, so it can include an aunt or uncle as well, not just a parent or grand-
