which is on the horizon. Tecom, the promoters of the project, has started a satellite survey of the land handed over for set- ting up the IT project. Anirudh Dange, Tecom chief investment officer, said the master plan for the project would be completed within five months. He said many IT firms from across the globe had shown keen interest in investing in SmartCity.


Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) which has juris- dictional area of 632 sq.km, has detailed development plans.


The new Chairman of GCDA, Mr N. Venugopal, has said that several development projects are being charted to meet the growing aspirations of the city to evolve as a metro. He said that steps will be taken to set up a permanent international exhibi- tion centre on the lines of the one at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from the land owned by GCDA at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium. The authority will also create a land bank.


He said that projects for the Bund Road and coastal roads are in the priority list. A land bank will be created by the authority through which it will procure land, which can be utilised for various devel- opmental projects.


Real estate boom Market analysts have indicated

The buildings for SmartCity will be eco-friendly, in keeping with the company’s policy to ensure that all its global townships comply with green concepts.The important features of the concept master plan includes highly effi- cient live-work concept that could attract and retain knowledge workers. It has made provision to take care of every aspects of knowledge workers’ life like their children’s education, health care, shopping, residence etc.
