ould you explain a little about the history of the company starting with the date when it was first established?
Eurocoin was founded by Tom Veitch, father of Colin & Nick, in 1971 with £150 of investment,
a telephone and desk in our spare bedroom at home. A qualified aeronautical engineer who had worked on the Comet jet airliner project, Tom had spent 6 years as GM of a large start-up hot & cold drinks vending business in London, before becoming interested in the opportunities opening up in the field of coin validation. The fledgling business received a great boost with the decimalisation of the UK coin set, and continues to specialise in payment transaction hardware to this day.
Were you destined to join the company or was that you enjoyed the industry and this was an ideal way? No, there was certainly no structured plan in the early days. Nick and I both pursued University degrees. I qualified as a teacher and spent 2 years in Canada, returning to the UK in 1984. By this point the business had experienced a considerable amount of growth in the UK and we both decided to commit full-time to the business and turn our attentions to the European gaming market.
What have been the achievements at the company that you are most proud off over the years? In 1986 I went to Reno and signed a distribution deal for Europe and Africa with a smallish US company producing about 4,000 gaming machines a year….IGT! Over the next 6 years, we worked extremely hard and with notable success to launch their now legendary new games across
