Everybody loves a celebration and no one in the Okanagan throws a party quite like Westside Daze.
WestsideDaze
Whether you’re a life long resident or visiting on vacation, whether you’re nine or 90 or anywhere in between, Westside Daze has something for you. For close to 50 years people on the Westside have celebrated, arm in arm, Canada’s birthday. And 2012 will be no exception.
Westside Daze will run from Friday, June 29 through Monday, July 2 2012 on the field beside the Johnson-Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre in the centre of West Kelowna.
As always, activities and entertainment on the field are completely free of charge. Some of the best tribute artists around will grace the Westside Daze stage. Friday night, it’s a tribute to Kenny Rogers and Dottie West, followed by ‘Blaze of Glory’ and their tribute to Bon Jovi on Saturday. Sunday evening, though not confirmed at press time, it is anticipated that Canada’s Rock & Roll legend and one time teen idol Bobby Curtola himself will perform. This is a great opportunity for you and your family to grab a lawn chair and blanket, and come out to enjoy an open- air concert with family and friends.
Other acts will take the stage during the daytime throughout the weekend. Some of the best performers from last year’s Youth Showcase will perform again during the Youth Encore from 12:30 to 5 pm Saturday, and on Sunday from 10 am to noon Westside Daze presents the second annual Youth Showcase where young performers strut their stuff whether it’s singing, instrumentation or dancing. The Most Wanted Band will also perform your favorites from the early days of Rock & Roll from noon to 3 pm Sunday.
Along with great live music, the field will be packed with plenty to see and do all weekend. Saturday afternoon there is a Kids Fair that follows the popular Westside Daze Parade, which starts at 10:30 am. The evening will be capped off with a SPECTACULAR fireworks show on Gellatly Bay.
Sunday begins with a pancake breakfast followed by a Classic Car Show, a must see for car enthusiasts. Monday is Okanagan Day, a celebration of First Nation heritage presented by Westbank First Nation, showing traditional aboriginal dance, crafts and music. Also on Monday, Global FMX will put on a breathtaking Freestyle Moto Cross show. Watch in awe as some of world’s top riders execute all the latest tricks – including the back flip – with ease! And for those who still crave more excitement West Coast Amusements will be offering rides and games for kids of all ages throughout the weekend.
So, if you want to take part in the activi- ties or kick back and listen to some great entertainment, Westside Daze is where you want to be June 30 to July 2, 2012.
