show in 2010, Daren says: “Visitor numbers were very healthy and we enjoyed tremendous support from the trade associations. The number of large stands showed exhibitor confidence in the unique route to market that Foodex offers. The spectacle and suspense of our unique retail butchery and bakery competitions were also very memorable.” When pressed on what new
features the organisers have come up with for Foodex 2012, Daren says that two new sections have been added for this year - bakery@foodex and logistics@foodex - which are replacing, respectively, the Bakery Industry Exhibition and Food and Drink Logistics Show. “Our Anaerobic Digestion [AD] & Biogas Zone is also creating a stir,” says Daren, “and we’ve had to make additional space available for this in response to the demand from would be exhibitors. Developed in response to visitor feedback, the AD zone and complementary seminars will demystify the AD process and show it can be used to reduce carbon footprints and

bring in additional revenue which will be of interest to organisations from across the food and drink arena.” Knowing that competitiveness
is key across the industry, Daren is keen to stress how Foodex can help. “Foodex brings the industry together and showcases the latest innovations and thinking with practical expertise on hand to explore how these products and services might help drive each visitor’s business forward,” he says. “It’s a happy combination of a broad exhibitor offering with the opportunity to see the latest equipment first hand and discuss the possibilities in person.” He also talks of a new initiative at the show, The Great British Bounce Back, which is highlighting the great work being done to contribute towards the UK’s economic recovery, across the food and logistics industry. Finally, when asked what parts
of the exhibition he is looking forward to the most, Daren says: “BBC’s Great British Bake Off celebrity baker Paul Hollywood is opening the show on the Sunday and imparting some of his magic
in his signature masterclass, The Art of Dough. We also have all the theatre of the various competitions and some solid business advice in the live events and logistics@foodex theatres. Foodex will also see the launch of Scala’s Fresh Connection 2012 quest to find the new supply chain champions with Mars eager to defend their crown! All in, it’s a great package and a must attend with much in return for time taken away from the office.”
He also claims that due to the
fast-moving nature of both the FMCG and packaging industries, and as Foodex is held only every two years, visitors need to keep up to date with the latest innovations. “People have to understand that the market will have moved on by 2014, so visiting now is the best way of making sure they are on top of things now, and in the future.”

The Foodex show always offers fantastic networking opportunities
they have a range of products to suit virtually every application in the dairy, food, beverage and packaging industries. On their stand this year at Foodex is a water feature showing both ceramic and seamless flooring in action together with Wiedemann stainless steel channels, coving and kerbs in a typical installation. Hygienic floors can be either resin or ceramic. The heavy duty resin floor can be laid directly to the installed structural concrete
or onto a suitable underlayment screed. In either case the floors can be installed flat or more suitably to “falls” for drainage. Heavy duty resin floors are designed to be hard wearing, provide both chemical and shock resistance and have a slip- resistant surface which complies with The Health and Safety Executives–Food Document number 22/slips and trips in the food industry. For specific areas an anti-static version is available where powder mixing or chemicals are stored. Kemtile install ceramic tiled floors using the Kagetec sonic vibration method for installation which includes the bedding screed, adhesive and tile to provide a durable floor finish. According to Kemtile, Kagetec tiles provide the ideal floor for the food, beverage or pharmaceutical industries. Where there are areas where spillages occur and drainage is required, Kemtile recommend Wiedemann stainless steel drainage channels to compliment their flooring systems. Kemtile have worked with Wiedemann for over 20 years and have found that its range and quality is far superior
to other drainage systems. In addition to floors, the company now have a new range of hygienic wall finishes called Protectorseal, which provide a seamless hygienic wall finish that is steam cleanable, tough and durable. For more information call 01925 763045, email
