Spring in the garden.
As we start to move towards spring there are many things to be done in the garden. Depending on the weather and just how much warmer it is becoming will dictate exactly what plants you prune and when you prune them, but this is the best time of year to give everything a good cut back which will allow you to have better looking and more organised plants which will allow you to enjoy your garden more during the later spring and summer months. You can prune all of your plants and trees now and if the weather has started to warm you will see them bounce back into life much quicker than if you prune them when the weather is colder.

It is also the best time of year to move any plants you may wish to transplant and move. If you are wanting to transplant plants then cut them back, you don’t have to go right back but at least to the end of last year’s growth to be sure, then you can remove from the ground working around the root ball with a spade. Once free, re-plant in the desired location making sure there is some soft soil and, if needs be, plant with some compost as when the plant starts to re-grow it will also have a bonus of extra nutrients to help it on its way. Make sure you keep them moist but don’t over water as this can cause root rot.
If you are thinking about re-organising the spaces or planted areas in your garden then it is the ideal time to give me a call and look at having a design made. We have done designs from huge gardens to very small terrace areas within gardens and, as a designer, I know the importance of having something to work to. It doesn’t cost much and it allows you to be able to have clear ideas to work from. When I go to see my clients my job is to listen to their needs and what they want, but I always absorb a lot more information than just that which allows me to create something special even for the smallest of areas. I enjoy very much designing large gardens but there can be something special about small gardens because with the right eye and imagination you will be blown away. It doesn’t matter how difficult or how big the space may be with a bit of thought it can be great.
If you want to make some changes but just can’t see your way around the idea, or you simply want some new ideas for an older garden, having your garden designed properly is one of the best things you can do.
Don’t forget we are celebrating St Patricks day Saturday the 17th of March at our next market day at Flores Garden Centre in Gata De Gorgos, just off the N-332. There will be lots going on and you can come down and speak with me to make sure you are buying the right plants for your garden. We will also be opening on Sundays from the 4th of March.
