Tips on giving up smoking. By Alan Gilchrist

Whenever a person wants to quit smoking the most important question they must ask themselves is why?


There are many good reasons as to why they want to give up but their health should be the most important. My advice to every smoker is STOP NOW WHILE YOU HAVE TIME TO STOP!


During the first few days of quitting smoking, changes in the body chemistry occurs. The acid-alkacline imbalance that has occurred during their period of smoking will be returning to a more normal state due to the nicotine leaving the body. It seems that the more acid in the body the more need there is for nicotine. Stress increases the acidity and this increases the need for nicotine, that is why it is important to learn to remain calm and relaxed. Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables excluding plums, prunes and cranberries to help the alkaline balance. Avoid red meats if possible, sugar, spices, tea, coffee and all cola drinks, plus alcohol as it is a potent acidifier and also weakens the will power.


In addition drink plenty of vitamin C type drinks and lots of water to flush out the system. It takes time for the body to adjust!


Another good tip is to reverse all daily routines. If you think of the mind like a computer, feed in certain information and you get a result. It’s the same for cigarette smokers, the phone rings - cigarette, cup of coffee - cigarette, getting into car - cigarette and so on. The easiest way to not get a result from a computer is to feed in incorrect information. So for a few days simply reverse all daily routines.


For example:


- Sleep on the opposite side of the bed and get out on the opposite side, sit in a different chair while eating or watching TV, drive to work in a different direction, use your opposite hand more for everything,


etc.
