I was visiting Cathy’s Cards in Calpe the other day and noticed a FOR SALE sign. So I asked Cathy if she was closing. “Not many people have asked me that” said Cathy. “I am actually due to officially retire in March 2013. I came to Spain in 1984 to retire, but after 2 years of being bored, I looked for something to do. After a lot of research, I decided to open the card shop as at that time there were only 2 others: Humpty Dumpty in Javea (still going strong) and McDonald’s in Alfaz (now closed).”
“In 1986 I bought my local in the Galerias and after the first Xmas of being open, the shop was such a success that I bought the local next door! So what started out as a hobby has become my life for the last 25 years”.
In that time Cathy has seen many changes with shops coming and going, but she’s still here! But after 25 years, it really is time to retire.
If anyone is interested in buying a freehold, then Cathy would love to hear from you because she really wants to travel to the many countries she’s dreamt of visiting.
Of course, in the meantime, if it’s cards and gifts you want (don’t forget Mother’s Day is in March) then Cathy’s Cards in Calpe is the place to go.
