NICA NEWS UPDATE……………...……..by Barb Hensinger, Executive Director, NICA Talk about hitting the road running. Since I have come

on board with NICA, we have been running hard! This win- ter, many of our NICA members, National Representatives and Board members have attended many of the Fair Asso- ciation meetings throughout the country. I was able to at- tend the Western Fair Association, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania conventions. As all of you know, this is a great opportunity to hear about issues impacting Fairs, and our members and to network with our Fair partners. I also was able to visit the South Florida Fair for the first time. What a great event! I look forward to visiting many of our other wonderful Florida Fairs in the upcoming months. As I write this note, NICA has just wrapped up our Flor-

ida Week activities; we had a great Fare Food Show and Business Expo. The food show was packed both nights, and all the NICA workshops were filled to capacity. Fare Foods, our partner in the event really delivered this year. The three day event was topped off with a fabulous dinner where Jason Kent of Sweet Onion Concessions won the grand prize of $20,000 in our reserve raffle! Congratula- tions to him. Please check our March NICA News for all the details of the show. NICA has also entered into a partnership with Coke to

launch a NICA Membership contest for our Fair and Fair Association partners, Fair associations can win up to a $1000 for recruiting new members to NICA, and Fairs can win up to $500. The prizes will be awarded at our Annual meeting next February. It is our goal to increase our Fair members to keep our vision of “Together we can” and we need our Fair partners to do this. It is NICA’s goal to have an effective Communications Committee at each Fair to

help us work together to address problems, create new programs so that our customers; the Fair patrons have a wonderful day at the Fair. After many years on the Fair management side of the

industry, it is fun to learn the other side. After working with our members for the past few months, I can confirm what I always believed; the NICA concessionaires have as much passion for this industry as the Fair volunteers, exhibitors and management staff. They truly care about the events you host and want to be a partner to help you discover ways to enhance the Fair experience for all. Looking forward to seeing you at the fair this spring!

Growing Partnerships Fair, Festival and State Association Membership Contest—Sponsored by Coca Cola The NICA membership is excited to offer our new campaign to reach out to our Fair, Festival partners and bring them

into the NICA family. The mission of our organization is to partner with all those who do business in our industry and work together, to grow, preserve and strengthen family friendly events held across the country. The contest will have two areas of focus. The first is to work with Fair /Festival management to encourage your sister

events and your vendors to join NICA. Our event management partners are the best ambassadors to help us bring the benefits of NICA membership to other vendors and events throughout the country. The other focus is for State Fair or Festival Associations to recruit new members to win resources to benefit your next state convention!
