Clay County

“Cowbells & Carousels” as our theme for the 26th Annual Clay County Agricultural Fair. The Fair is set for March 29 - April 7, 2012. The Board approved a parking lot expansion project that

has been completed just in time for this year’s Fair. That’s really important to us since we had to close last year, due to lack of parking. The new addition is approximately 28 acres and will add another 1,200 parking spots. Opening day will again be “Dollar Day.” Admission will be

$1 and all rides will be $1 each. Gates open at 12 Noon to give our guests an opportunity to come in the afternoon or night to take advantage of the reduced prices. The High School Night of Competition will again be held

in the Cattlemen’s Arena on opening night. Local High Schools compete in the following games: Tug-o-War, Cow Milking, Cow-Patty Toss, Land-Skiing, and Current Event questions to each team. Friday will be Senior Day with gates opening at 12 Noon

and the midway opening at 3:00PM. This allows seniors time to enjoy the fair when it’s less crowded. Our daily sponsor will be Wells Fargo. We will have a Midway Wrist- band promotion ($20 each, sold 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM, good ‘til closing); Southern Mower Madness Lawnmower Racing will again be the main entertainment in the Cattlemen’s Arena. It will include a Pit Party and Lawn Mower Races both in the afternoon and evening. Saturday is “Professional Bull Riders Classic Day.” This

will replace the Florida High School Rodeo competition that we have in past years. There will be two shows, 1:00PM and 6:00PM. Dewayne Spaw will entertain at the opening of all the

shows on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Sunday will be “Family Day.” This year we will feature a

Clay County Invitational Classic Car Show in the Cattle- men’s Arena. Monday will be “Think Green Day,” sponsored by Waste

Management. Admission will be Half Price with 2 can- goods that will benefit the Food Pantry of Green Cove Springs. We will spotlight on our recycling effort. The Key- stone Cops will be on hand to “catch our guests Green- Handed” when they are caught in the act of recycling. Tuesday is “Twelve Buck Tuesday” sponsored by Clear

Channel Radio/WQIK. We will feature our lowest wristband promotion of the Fair. This is our fourth year of this suc- cessful promotion. On the main stage in the Cattlemen’s Arena we will have our annual Talent Contest for junior and senior division, a performance by the All-Starz Dance Stu- dio and our version of the Singing Bee Contest coordinated by Dennis Lee. Wednesday is “Coke Night.” sponsored by Coca-Cola. Entertainment will feature Colt Ford @ 8:00PM.

Florida Pioneer Village. Demonstrators dress for the period and demonstrate their skills to show how life was in the old days in Florida, especially Clay County Florida. This popu- lar stop for our guests includes: food sampling, educational exhibits, such as the Master Gardeners Heritage Garden, and entertainment. Many improvements were made in the off-season. Daily entertainment will include: The Sweeney Family

Band, Denny the Rodeo Clown, Ron Diamond –Hypnotist & Magic Show, Willy’s Washboard Jamboree, Rosaire’s Royal Pig Races, World Famous Disc-Connected K-9-s Frisbee Dog Team, Star Family Circus & Thrill Show, Frog Jumping Shows and Show Me Safari Petting Zoo with Camel and Pony Rides. Sunshine & Smiles and Cheerios & Bubblegum will again
