The 2012 Brevard County Fair By Bill Cannon, General Manager
We are all working hard to have a spectacular fourth
season of the Brevard County Fair. Working with Brevard County Parks and Recreation, one of our partners, we have been able to add some fill dirt to an area of the grounds that tended to hold water after any storm passed. Wickham Park, who maintains the grounds for Brevard Community College, was instrumental in that project. With that new area available, we are moving our animal tent and we are adding a second animal tent to accommodate the growth of our new 4-H large animal shows. We are using that tent area as a hub of our agriculture related activities. We will be moving our pony rides to that area as well as a temporary show ring. We are excited about being able to increase the involvement of our youth as well as youth from our surrounding counties. All of this could not have been possible without the hard work and support of our local Ex- tension Service. We are also planning on having an area just for kids. Parents will be able to sit and rest while their children participate in a free interactive area that will in- clude, painting with watercolors, sidewalk chalk for the floor and hula hoops. This will be in our pavilion and we feel it will be a positive activity for our Fair participants. We are also working to improve our electrical service. Our Fair area was not designed originally for the capacity of electri- cal usage it takes for a large event. Again, working with Wickham Park Management, we are attempting to upgrade the electrical service to accommodate the demand. Brittany Bethel, who is our liaison for the Extension Ser-
vice, is really doing a great job. She is also functioning as our marketing director and she is busy, busy, busy contact- ing former vendors and new vendors to participate in our Fair. She has a large check list and she makes sure every task is done right. Myers International Midway continues as our midway
provider. Ms. Gloria Myers and her staff has been instru- mental in our success as a new and growing Fair. They consistently have an exciting midway and they are there when we need assistance. Thanks to Gloria and her Myers Midway family for their support. Well, we have things to do and the clock is ticking. If
you are in the Melbourne area, please stop in and say hello. We open March 22nd and close April 1st. at Wick- ham Park Pavilion located next to the Melbourne Campus of Brevard Community College on Wickham Road.
The St. Lucie County Fair Jr. Board The St. Lucie County Fair established a Jr. Board in
2009. With two years under their belt they have become an extremely productive and important part of the St. Lucie County Fair. Most of the Fairs in Florida have generations and generations of volunteers and Board Members that are the backbone of our Fairs. The majority of this board has been raised either in our youth livestock program or have parents and grandparents that have been active with the
Fair for years. We started with a handful and have grown to 14 in two
short years. They are now committee chairs and a strong part of the entire organization of our yearly Fair. We do have the Jr. Board sit in our monthly Board meetings so they learn the business end of our industry. Joining this board is not just a chance to get a free pass to the Fair. They work hard and love every minute of it. Their enthusiasm is infectious and we are very grateful to have them.
THEY ARE THIS FAIR’S FUTURE AND WE ARE SO PROUD OF EACH AND EVERYONE OF THEM!!!
