GETTING TO KNOW OUR PAST PRESIDENTS………..……………………….……...... Buck Christian The year was 1972. The Dal-

las Cowboys defeated the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl VI, gas was .55 cents per gallon, history was changed as the Watergate scandal was exposed and Buck Christian changed his life. Work- ing as a meteorologist for PBIA Christian was asked to assemble a weather exhibit for the South Florida Fair. Little did he know

how his life would change as he joined the South Florida Fair as a Director in 1974 and eventually becoming the Fair Manager in 1981. Buck soon found out that predicting the weather would be a valuable tool for the Fair business as he not only advised participants at the South Florida Fair, but colleagues throughout the state as well. Through his years of service at the South Florida Fair, he

climbed the Florida Federation of Fairs ladder with confi- dence and ease. Christian served as a Federation board

member for nine years and attended over 27 annual Fed- eration meetings. He served on many committees such as Legislative, Long Range Planning, Summer Workshop, Trade Show, Showcase, Fairperson of the Year and many more. “I have gladly been on most committees, but the most time-consuming project was the Economic Impact study, that was a bear of a job,” quipped Christian. In 1990 he was named an Honorary Life Member of the

Federation after serving as President of the Florida Federa- tion of Fairs. As if he needed the validation of his commit- ment and dedication to the Fair industry, in 1999 he was given the honor to enter the Florida Federation of Fairs Hall of Fame. Retirement has been good to Buck as he enjoys partici-

pating in activities at his church and enjoying life’s little mo- ments such as photography, painting watercolors and read- ing the history of Christianity. Not only has his career been a successful one, so has his family life. He is a husband to Christelle, a devoted father to daughters Tracy and Mi- chelle and grand-father to several loving grand-children. The weather may change but by his actions to all that meet him Buck Christian proves over and over again he is no fair weather friend!
