FROM THE DESK OF …………………………………... Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam

With the 2012 Florida State Fair

Adam H. Putnam Commissioner

just closing, I enjoyed the fun, food and festivities our state Fair is known for. However, the Fair is not just about the corndogs and roller coasters; it’s also about the agricultural exhibits and livestock shows. These exhibits provide a tremendous opportunity for Flor- ida’s youth to demonstrate their skills in agriculture and for others to learn about the industry’s im- pact as one of the state’s eco- nomic pillars and a chief supplier of our nation’s food.

This year, we arranged for the Cabinet to hold its meeting

at the Fair in an effort to highlight the youth leadership and development opportunities, Florida’s rich agricultural heri- tage and the finest Fresh From Florida produce, livestock and poultry our state has to offer. On opening day of the Fair, I was joined by Governor Rick Scott and my fellow members of the Cabinet, Attorney General Pam Bondi and Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater. We visited Cracker Country, took part in AgVentures and cheered on the youth competing in the livestock shows. We even took a ride down the Giant Slide. I enjoyed sharing the time-honored traditions of the Fair

with Governor Scott, Attorney General Bondi and CFO At- water. I hope other Floridians will take part in the season’s events throughout the state as well. The opportunities of- fered by the Fair only come around once a year
