the nutritious, healthful properties of the moringa oleifera tree, also known as the miracle tree. To introduce area residents to the moringa, the Naples residents will plant five trees and con- duct a workshop from 10 a.m. to noon, February 25, as part of a free Seeds of Literacy Day event at Grace Place for Children and Families, in Golden Gate, in Naples. The event includes storytell- ing and games for member children. The Salernos recently launched a small company, Moringa Spirit (MoringaSpirit.com), to help provide knowledge about moringa trees and offer their products and seeds. “We suggest that they [member families] grow them for nutrition to add the leaves to their family meals,” says Daryl. “Moringa leaves contain four times more calcium than milk; three times more iron than spinach; three times more potassium than bananas; and four times more vitamin A than carrots. They also provide protein with all the essential amino acids. I want to help Grace Place members to help themselves.”

Grace Place is a faith-based, nonprofit neighborhood center teach- ing literacy, language and life skills to at-risk children and impoverished families in Golden Gate City.

Location: 4300 21st Ave. S.W. For more information about the event or volunteer opportunities, call 239-455- 2707 or visit GracePlaceNaples.org or GreenMedInfo.org. Also visit Moringa Spirit on Facebook.
