board during one particular soul-searching surf session. “I swam down and lay next to it on the sand. I had to surface for air every five minutes, but spent the most amazing half hour of my life next to this incredible creature. It was just the reminder I needed to assure me that, financial stress aside, I was just where I needed to be.

To experience a moment like this, where a crea- ture finds you in the huge ocean – and chooses to stay with you – is something very special. It reconnected me to my life and my choices. Te encounter gave me so much energy and vitality, and the unmistakable message was: if you’re in the right place, doing the right thing, you can accomplish anything you set your heart on.”

As someone who promotes “doing what you do, and doing it well”, Hanli, with a group of ocean-loving friends founded the I Am Water Trust in 2010.

Tey believe that mankind and nature can- not survive without each other and also firmly advocate the age-old saying that man will protect what he loves, and loves only what he has experienced, so this is where they are most active. I Am Water aims to foster ocean conservation through human experience. Trough their conservation campaigns and education they promote the

premise that conservation needs to make an impact on people’s sense of beauty and love, not through statistics that bring fear and hopelessness.

Together as a charitable trust, the primary aim for I Am Water is to ensure that all indi- viduals in South Africa have equal access to our wonderful ocean wilderness. Amongst their various projects, I Am Water not only offers ocean wilderness retreats,

teaches

conservation to surfers, creates awareness around marine protected areas, and orga- nizes monthly beach clean-ups but also offer freediving courses to previously dis- advantaged individuals. Hanli’s answer to what she is most proud of in her career is “I have worked with kids from townships, sports- men, corporates, and I love showing them their bodies’ adaptation to water, and seeing the ap- preciation in them grow.”

Sharing her life passion with others is an important part of Hanli Prinsloo’s creation of internal bliss. Sharing her secret to inter- nal bliss with Inspirational Woman Maga- zine, she says, “Live through your true self, moment by moment, and do what you love!”
