Special Featured Charity SAE

Te women at the centre are reaping the rewards of their commitment and partner- ships through the progress of their commu- nity gardens. Te gardens supply them and their communities with improved nutrition, as well as some monetary gains, by sell- ing the excess to local people, thus raising money to spend on their individual family needs. Te women in Lupane make some of the most beautiful Ndebele, Tonga and Nambyan baskets and other traditional and contemporary works of art. Teir crafts, through generous sponsorships and part- nerships, have found markets in other parts of Africa, Europe and the Americas. SAE is delighted to be a partner of LWC as we are witnessing shifts and improvements in the lives of the members through the vari- ous programs. proved their diet and received a great deal of training in technical and business skills. Te women have also learned more about legal and human rights and how to advo- cate for themselves in their private lives as well as in the labour market. Women have testified that their relationships with their spouses and families have also improved through peace-building advice and idea- sharing that they benefit from at the centre. Above all, the women have attained finan- cial independence to send their children to school, buy food and clothing and no longer fully rely on their husbands for everything. In essence, this is extremely empowering as the women have found a platform to make contributions to the development of their homes and individual lives. Tus their voic- es are also heard, as they have gained respect within their community.
