The nominees: Independent Bottling
Independent botling t Old and Rare Glen Garioch
Weymss Malts Mocha Spice Dalmore 1990
NOMINATED BY Mark Connelly ABV 46% REGION Island “For me, last year’s Tropical Spice from Wemyss Malts was the best Dalmore I’ve ever tasted. This year’s Mocha Spice is a little different but just as good. It’s defi nitely a case of doing what it says on the tin with bags of coffee, cocoa and spices. More please!”
NOMINATED BY Darren Leitch ABV 57.3% REGION Island “I’m a big fan of Glen Garioch, which is currently going through a bit of a renaissance right now with a new visitor centre and a recent re-branding of its range of malts. This one, however, is by the independent bottlers Douglas Laing, from a very well chosen single cask. Only 120 bottles are available, each packaged in one of the fi nest presentation wood cases around and, most importantly, I think this is Glen Garioch at its fi nest; distinctive peatiness with heather, honey and a balance to have you swooning for a while.”
Old & Rare Mortlach 18yo
NOMINATED BY Robin Russell ABV 40%
REGION Island
“Mortlach is quite rightly a highly revered distillery and one that I am very fond of. This 18yo single cask is from Douglas Laing’s Old & Rare selection and is a fi ne example of a cask strength Mortlach displaying an excellent balance. Rich mahogany with a hint of cinnamon and candied fruit on the nose followed on the palate by orange and hint of marzipan. This is a beautifully intense whisky with a number of layers. Defi nitely one for the sherry enthusiasts.”

Linkwood 1991 Cask Strength
NOMINATED BY Ewen Mackintosh ABV 43% REGION Speyside
“Situated on the outskirts of Elgin, I have long singled out Linkwood as the epitome of elegance for Speyside. With its clean, crisp fruitiness complemented by hints of toasted malt and spices, this cask strength expression does not disappoint.”
