The nominees: over £80

Over £80 Glenfarclas 25yo Benromach 30yo

NOMINATED BY Mike Lord ABV 43% REGION Speyside “This is a top class malt and a real asset to the Benromach range. It has a relatively delicate nose with rum and raisin and lots of Christmas cake on the palate deriving from the combination of fi rst and second fi ll sherry casks. But it’s not too huge on the sherry making it a bit more of an any time of day treat.”

NOMINATED BY Darren Leitch ABV 43% REGION Speyside “Initially my choice from this family owned distillery was the Glenfarclas 175 anniversary edition. It is a vatting of several vintage casks with the earliest one being from 1952, but being a limited edition stocks are so scarce there was none available for the challenge. The 25yo is a very worthy alternative choice which I re-tasted recently since one of my new recruits in Victoria Street was raving on about it when trying it for the fi rst time. It remains her favourite tipple.”

Fettercairn 24yo

NOMINATED BY Duncan Ralph ABV 44.4% REGION Highland “Launched back in September last year, I was lucky enough to taste the new releases. This 24 year old and it’s elegant packaging is certainly unforgettable.”

Fettercairn 40yo

NOMINATED BY Mark Connelly ABV 40% REGION Highland “As old whiskies go this is up there with the best of them. It’s an unforgettable whisky which

really, for me, is worth the price tag for once. The spirit and the wood have become perfectly integrated and well balanced.”
