The nominees: over £80
The nominees Glengoyne 21yo
NOMINATED BY Automatic entry ABV 43% REGION Highland
“This whisky has been in the challenge so long that it has moved price brackets. Orginally in the £35-£80 category we had to move it up this year. It was interesting to see how it would fair up against the competition, but with an incredible smoothness and a pleasant fi nish this dram wasn’t about to disappoint.”
Signet
NOMINATED BY Scottish Field ABV 46% REGION Highland
“Released in 2008 the Signet is a special little dram. Using 20% chocolate malt in the process gives the overall taste and fi nish a lovely mochaccino. With no age statement this expression includes whisky from the seventies, eighties and nineties to create a complex dram.”
Isle of Jura 21 200th
NOMINATED BY Robin Russell ABV 44% REGION Island “This wonderful 21yo was launched to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Jura Distillery. Aged for twenty years in American white oak then put into a vintage 1963 Gonzales Byass cask for its fi nal year. I was gifted this whisky because of the 1963 relevance! Once
opened it did not disappoint; nutty Oloroso on the nose followed by almonds and plums on the palate and a hint of unripened Seville oranges. The fi nish is the classic older Jura taste of Pontefract cakes.

Glen Grant 170th
NOMINATED BY Ewen Mackintosh ABV 43% REGION Speyside
“The iconic label with two highlanders sitting having a dram of whisky seems to have been around forever. The distillery reached its 170th anniversary last year and this special bottling selected by Dennis Malcolm delivers the seductively smooth, fruity and rich taste for which Glen Grant is renowned.”
