The nominees: Under £35
Under £35 Glen Moray 10yo
NOMINATED BY Mike Lord ABV 40% REGION Speyside “This is a new release (or a relaunch) from the new owners of Glen Moray 10 and is fully matured in Chardonnay casks. It is a really great whisky – very smooth and lots of butterscotch notes.
It also
has a great price and should be very competitive in this category.”
Old Pulteney 12yo NOMINATED BY Mark Connelly REGION Highland
ABV 40%
“This is one whisky which is always in my drinks cabinet at home. It’s rich, honeyed and rounded with a defi nite salty tang of the sea about it. A classic dram which suits most palates and is so moreish. One for guests that you like.”
Dalmore 12yo Glencadam Portwood
NOMINATED BY Robin Russell ABV 46% REGION Highland
“An old distillery famed for its sweet and fruity style. I am of the opinion that some wood fi nishes don’t work but this one does. Displaying on the nose dates, prunes and vanilla custard followed on the palate by treacle tart, ginger and plums with some young barley thrown in. A fi nish of cocoa and light spice. A cracking Portwood Finish to be enjoyed after dinner with a good cigar if you feel inclined or miss the pudding save the calories and have this instead. It won’t disappoint!”

NOMINATED BY Darren Leitch ABV 43% REGION Highland “Sales of the Dalmore 12 year old have risen sharply in the Whisky Shop recently with better exposure, customers attraction to its stylish stags head design on the bottle and the desire for the taste of a good dram. Dalmore 12yo has become our whisky of the year 2011. Whilst other Dalmore expressions such as Trinitas selling at a cool £100,000 and EOS at a more affordable £15,000 are fl ying off shelves and exciting collectors, this Dalmore has a growing army of fans amongst modest drinkers too.”
