premium experience of Westfield Stratford City. Taking fashion as the main inspiration, Broom’s design was influenced by luxury jewellery and gives the impression of jewel encrusted bangles, lining the welcome halls and sending reflections and shadows onto the surrounding walls. The eighteen lights hang in arrangements of three, across six of the development’s entrance lobbies.

“The Studio East project has been an

amazing experience and I’m delighted to see my designs being used as a focal point,” Broom says. “Having Tom Dixon as a mentor to discuss my design concepts with was an invaluable experience. He’s such a pioneering designer.” Mentor Tom says: “Lee brings his entrepreneurial skill and theatrical perspective from fashion and slams it straight into the design business which is what gives him his own unique vision.”

Broom will also be launching his debut upholstery collection at this year’s London Design Festival. Not to be missed the collection, called Salon, consists of six pieces and is inspired by curvy 30’s boudoir styling with just a hint of fashion fetishism. To launch the new collection, Broom will be transforming his Shoreditch studio into a design salon, which will be open throughout the week. For more information visit www.leebroom.com

HBA reaches new heights

building including its concrete ceilings and aggregate walls. The traditional is complemented by modern and eclectic touches including vintage and bespoke furniture, feature areas and lighting. Focal points include the kitchen, clad in solid timber, whilst the striking bar, which continues through the glazing onto the outside terrace, is in black glass with a black mosaic bar front.

HBA has completed the interior design of The Ritz-Carlton Spa by ESPA, located in the International Commerce Centre – the tallest building in Hong Kong and the third tallest in the world. The Ritz- Carlton occupies the uppermost 15 levels of the 118-floor building, qualifying it as the world’s highest hotel. HBA London’s design of the spa on the 116th and 118th floors has made the ESPA a focal point of the city’s skyline and a jewelled urban escape atop Hong Kong’s crown of lights. “The spa’s height provided the inspiration for our design concept,” says Inge Moore, Principal of HBA London. “To craft a sanctuary of softness from the

stressful surroundings of the city, we chose to create a spa cocooned and protected in the clouds. The silkworm’s cocoon is a soft, white pillow of finely spun silk making it an ideal metaphor for the spa – a place of peaceful, protected transformation.” To enhance the sense of being “cocooned amongst the clouds”, the spaceplan has been designed to have no sharp corners; walls are curved as if providing a protective embrace. Upon entering, guests are greeted by soft forms and natural finishes. Overhead, a floating art installation is suspended from the ceiling - developed with artist Eva Menz.
