cdg Eco-friendly ethos translated

The Catering Design Group (CDG) were commissioned by business analytics software and services company SAS International to create an on-site café, dining, lounging and meeting area for its staff and visitors that would compete with the best Marlow high street has to offer, encouraging staff to remain on-site during their lunch-hour. Housed in an energy efficient 10,000sqm building with dramatic open spaces, a three storey atrium and eco-friendly features that include grey water recycling, the brief was to create a sophisticated environment with a professional appeal and look that fitted in with the company’s green ethos. Six zones were required, consisting of: A servery area for theatre style cooking, a main dining room capable of seating up to 140 staff, a private area for meetings, a soft seating area, delegates area and a scenic drinks area to enable staff to take in the stunning views of the grounds and lake. The separate zones were identified with different carpet colours and shapes. The final space was designed with a colour palette of gentle tones, providing a sense of balance, whilst also ensuring there was unity with the outdoor space with the use of greens, natural beiges, timber cladding, grass and leaves. Listed in the Sunday Times top 100 Best Companies to work for SAS has a very strong environmental policy in place and where possible, The CDG reused existing materials or sourced new materials environmentally. It was also important to the client that staff were able to see their food being freshly prepared on a daily basis. The kitchen was enhanced with live webcams showing the chefs at work. Booth areas were created for staff requiring privacy or simply to work quietly. The booths seat up to six people with the high backs creating the privacy. Each booth is fitted with a mini screen for staff to watch Sky news or plug in laptops. Because the space leads off the impressive circular atrium, The CDG suggested to the client that they call it the Circle Restaurant. The CDG designed the circle logo, which has been utilised on uniforms, a clock, even cupcakes!

The catering facility has been designed to have an atmosphere and dining experience capable of competing with local cafes
