Staff from The Manor House Nursing Home are celebrating after receiving a national award recognising their Gold Standard end of life care. Karen Walker and Cath Mellin Registered Managers of The Manor House were accompanied by Catherine Hargreaves, MacMillan Nurse and Chris Harrison, proprietor of The Manor House to receive the prestigious award in London at the International End of Life Care Conference at the Queen Elizabeth 11 conference centre. They were presented with the award by Baroness Julia Neuberger, the home then held a party to celebrate the success. The evening was attended by over 200 guests including Lord and Lady Clitheroe, Nigel Evans MP for Ribble Valley, Mr Tony Cann founder of Promethean, John McCardle the actor, who presented the staff with their plaque as well as many other dignitaries, members of the Health Authority and PCT and most important of all past and present relatives and friends of the Manor House. The evening was kept informal showcasing the talents of Bryan who regularly plays the keyboard at The Manor House, Gemma who kept the clients entertained with a crafts session and Georgina who was demonstrating holistic therapies. Plenty of wine and canapés were available provided by the in house chefs and a good time was had by all. Cath Mellin and Karen Walker, managers of The Manor House Nursing home in Chatburn, said: “We must take this opportunity to thank all the staff for the attending training and adapting to the changes to enable us to gain accreditation. We are delighted to have been awarded this prestigious award. We have always prided ourselves on the excellent care we have provided our residents. GSF has helped us formalise this and take our care to the next level, ensuring that residents enjoy their lives, receiving high quality care they want in their chosen place right up to the end.” Those care homes that have received the GSF Quality Hallmark Award have demonstrated a real improvement in the quality of care they provide and halving of hospital deaths and crisis admissions, leading

to greater satisfaction for families,

residents and staff and significant cost savings for the NHS. F o r mo r e i n f o r ma t i o n : K a r e n Wa l k e r karen@manorhousechatburn.co.uk or Tel: 01200 441394
