October edition already, what happened to summer? Where has the year gone? Clocks are going back and Christmas is just around the corner! They say time flies when you’re having fun, and that’s just what The Herald is all about, and we’ve got a cracking edition this month. Our main theme is Halloween – so be afraid – be very afraid.

We have a wedding feature on pages 9, 10 & 11. Quite appropriate really as our editor’s daughter gets married this month and he’s afraid-he’s very afraid, particularly about the speech. So we have a few tips on wedding speeches.

On page 21 we have a list of October Awareness days including World Smile Day on 7th October (we’ll be watching), and - Wait for it - International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction. You couldn’t make it up.

We welcome another new member to our team, Laura Chadwick from Clitheroe brings a wealth of office and administration experience to the business and she is also writing a new column for us called “Lost on the Plot”. How spooky is this, Laura is great friends with our other columnist, Carol from the Hardware Store in Padiham. They met when they all worked the markets well before Carol and Eric opened their shop. Small world. See page 22.

Dangerous Dan is back on page 23 with his “Motor Mouth” column, and yet again we’ve had bags of entries for the Mystery Pub quiz, so we’ve done another. This one is especially for all you baby boomers out there. Do you remember all those 60’s bands?

We have lots of quizzes and brainteasers, plus all our usual daft stuff. Enjoy.
