October edition already, what happened to summer? Where has the year gone? Clocks are going back and Christmas is just around the corner! They say time flies when you’re having fun, and that’s just what The Herald is all about, and we’ve got a cracking edition this month. Our main theme is Halloween – so be afraid – be very afraid. We have a wedding feature on pages 9, 10 & 11. Which is quite ap- propriate as our editors daughter gets married this month, and he’s afraid– he’s very afraid, particularly about the speech. So we’ve done a few tips on speeches.

On page 21 we have a list of October Awareness days including World Smile Day on 7th October (we’ll be watching), and - Wait for it - International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction. You couldn’t make it up. We have a new member of our office team, Laura Chadwick, who is also writing a new column for us called “Lost on the Plot” on page 22. And how spooky is this, she turns out to be good friends with our other columnist, Carol from The Hardware Store. They worked the markets together before Carol and Eric got their shop in Padiham. It’s a small world, and I’ve no doubt they,ll be reminiscing a bit over the coming months. Again we have bags of entries for the Mystery Pub quiz, so we’ve done another, especially for all you baby boomers, on 60’s bands. Plus all our usual daft stuff. Enjoy.
