Fairport photos on display in Banbury F
airport stars Ric Sanders and Chris Leslie recently showcased their musical flair during
a visit to Banbury Museum, writes Vicky Crossley. Surrounded by a display of photographs by Simon Bradley the duo played for spectators in the busy Canalside Cafe. Simon’s exhibition celebrates the band’s connections with Cropredy over the last four decades. Each photograph shows festival enthusiasts wearing different Fairport t-shirts including one picture with a famous ‘farewell’ shirt from 1979! Chris Leslie enthused: ‘I played at one of the festivals in 1977. It’s amazing to see
how it’s grown through the years and is now a major national event. This exhibition reflects that and any Fairport fans in the area should pay a visit.’ Cllr James Macnamara, Cherwell District Council’s lead member for the
environment said: ‘Fairport Convention’s festival at Cropredy has become an important and integral part of the cultural life of Cherwell, attracting fans from all over the world. It’s come a long way from the modest beginnings of over 30 years ago and now this exhibition will celebrate the festival, the band and all the fans who’ve made the event such a success. My thanks to Ric and Chris for coming along to be the first to see the exhibition.’ Hadley’s fantastic exhibition is open until 10th Septemer
Wine merchant gains national recognition L
ocal wine merchant S H Jones has recently been recognised for the quality of a promotion they
ran during April and May this year. Wine Australia, the generic body for the
promotion of all Australian wines throughout the world, ran a competition alongside the Australian promotion open to all UK independent wine merchants. The promotion included free in-store tastings, discounts and writing articles featuring Australian regions on their website to generate local interest in the wines. S H Jones entry was considered to be of very high quality with a sustainable approach to sales growth being a particularly important element. As a result of winning the competition S H Jones buyer, Kieron Galliard will now spend two weeks in Australia this August visiting various wine regions. Tim Carlisle, who organised and ran the promotion for S H Jones comments ‘It’s
great that the hard work our retail managers put in during this promotion has been recognised. Whilst entering the competition was always on the cards we didn’t expect to win but rather we ran a promotion that would be good for our customers before anything else. If Wine Australia consider that to be a job well done then that is just the icing on the cake, giving our customers a great experience is far more important.’
