With Barry Whitehouse of The Artery in Church Lane
The Arty Bit
Art Class
Diary Dates I
I
must start by saying how thrilled and excited I was when I was offered the task of taking over Claire’s feature. Claire has done such a great job for such a time and I can only
hope to follow her example. As with all things, different people bring their own thoughts and although the format will stay similar, I will be adding a little twist. I own The Artery, an art shop in Banbury and have been interested in the Arts for as long as I can remember. I have worked in an art shop environment man and boy and have taught art to adults for 16 years, so it’s fair to say I am pretty well immersed in ‘art’. I will be asking for your input over the coming months,
whether it be your opinions, pictures of your artwork or a tip- off that your art group is exhibiting somewhere. This space is an arty space for you – a showcase for your talent, a soapbox for your views and a point of call for what’s on. I will also be adding an Art Surgery section where I will be answering your painting queries, showing you basic painting techniques and talking about different painting mediums and what they do. Hopefully you may be inspired enough to pick up a brush and have a dabble yourself!
know we at the shop have a lot of things going on in August:
free art demonstrations, art workshops and we have a different artist and subject being exhibited each week in our gallery area. It astounded me just how artistic the area is and made me thankful
that we live in such a wonderful, creative part of the world. Looking ahead slightly to September, the ginny gray gallery in Buckinhgam are staging a major exhibition of new original pastels by painter Sally Trueman – Bodies Of Water. She is noted for her evocative, beautifully painted nude figures in the surf. Sally will be attending a private view at the gallery on the evening of Saturday 24th September. Contact the gallery by email or telephone to reserve free places at this not-to-be- missed event:

The Art Surgery The Question
ʻI want to take up Watercolour Painting but know nothing about them. Is there a simple guide to what you can do with them?ʼ
Diane, Banbury. T 14 August 2011
here are many great books, DVDs and
online tutorials that will help. I have compiled a short run down of the basic watercolour techniques that are often used. If you have a yearning to paint, why not follow the tips and see what you can do?
