FOUR SHIRES FOOD & DRINK W

elcome to the Four Shires food and drink listings. If you are

looking for a meal in the The Four Shires you are spoilt for choice. Our list is

by no means a comprehensive guide to all the eateries in the area, but you are guaranteed a good meal at any of the pubs and restaurants listed here. As with all good food places give the venue a call before visiting, to guarantee a seat at the table! Whilst we can’t claim to have eaten at all the pubs listed here, we have tried the majority...they are all excellent choices for the lunchtime break or an evening’s dining out. Enjoy their hospitality... Bon appetite!

T

he Royal Oak is a pub with personality - it dates

back over 300 years to the 17th century. The pub is at the heart of the ironstone and conservation village of Eydon. Legend has it that cock fights used to regularly take place inside the pub and that a plot to murder the then Lord of the Manor was overheard! With stone interior, secret alcoves and four separate dining areas, it makes a cosy place to have a delicious meal or a pint of

local ale. There are four cask ales plus one rotating guest beer - and a cracking wine list supplied by S H Jones of Banbury. Head Chef, Christian Ringsby-Burges has recently taken over the kitchen at the Oak, after gaining a wealth of culinary experience as the 2nd Chef at the renowned Fawsley Hall. Christian also previously worked at Michelin starred Whatley Manor & The New French Partridge. A sample of Christian’s new menu includes: seafood rissotto with mussels, tiger prawns, crayfish tails, cucumber & fennel. We also have a 10oz ribeye of Buckby beef served with Moreton Pinkney mushrooms, fondant shallots, cherry tomatoes and hand cut chips. The emphasis will be on

showcasing quality, seasonal, local produce. Christian intends to work with as many local producers as possible who can fulfil his quality requirements. Moreton Mushrooms (Moreton Pinkney), Wykham Park asparagus (Banbury), Windmill Orchards fruits and juices (Sulgrave) are just such suppliers. The Royal Oak also runs a locally grown fruit and vegetable exchange for beer tokens! Open: Mondays 6pm – 9pm
