Association. Associates are our suppliers, contractors, vendors, consultants and service providers—and they are the backbone of the organization.

Say 'Tanks' to an Associate A
s the year is going by, I realize more and more why our associates are so important to the Greater Houston Builders
Third, associates provide materials and labor to build our Benefit Homes and HomeAid projects. Without them, these projects would not provide the funds necessary to support these charities.
First and foremost they provide knowledge and information unavailable outside the organization. I have personally gained an incredible amount of information about processes, products and services that are of great value to my company. Most of that learning has occurred during informal, one-on-one discussions with an associate. They help me make my business better.
Second, the associates provide leadership. Look at all of the GHBA’s 15 councils and committees, and then examine the membership of each. Overwhelmingly they are our associates. The associates are the ones on the phone banks getting the builders and others to attend our important meetings. They are the ones who chair committees. And they are the ones who provide the enthusiasm and fun. In recognition of their participation, this year we created the position of associate vice president on the GHBA board of directors.
Lastly, associates provide sponsorships to all of the activities of the organization. Without these sponsorships, most of the activities, meetings and fun events we all enjoy would not be possible. How many of you have gone to a meeting or event “sponsored by………”? The larger events such as Extravaganza, forecast luncheons, and Houston’s Best require lots of dollars to make them the events they are. Time and time again, our associates step up to the plate.
Let us not forget those associates and their companies that rise above the rest. They are our Sustaining Associate Members or SAMs. They contribute a minimum of $5,000 to GHBA annually, and it goes without saying that those associates attend virtually every event and meeting.
The next time you are at an event, meeting or function, please go up to one of our SAMs and say “thanks.” Because without them, the GHBA would not be what it is today.
