Andrew’s work was….. INCREDIBLE. To be honest I have seen a lot of artwork, mostly due to my girlfriend being an artist, but I had never been so fascinated as when I saw Andrew’s studio. Perhaps the most captivating material he presented me with, were his homemade instruments. These instruments had been either handcrafted by Andrew, or had been existing platforms which had been tweaked to a certain specification, but all were a blast to toy around with. My favorites were the Keytar (yes, that’s a guitar with keys!) and the organ, which took the general appearance of an old 80’s arcade game case complete with yellow and orange buttons and organ pedals. But these instruments provided something more than just an aesthetically cool appearance; they all functioned perfectly, and I got to play with them. Being part of LTM, I knew I would most likely get some hands-on experience with our Artist’s materials, but this was by far the most fun I have had doing this job.

Along with the fantastic toys and instruments Andrew had in his arsenal of artistic tools, his video and audio work was absolutely astounding. My favorite example of his artistic genius was his audio-reactive TV installation. This installation was built, programmed, and set up by Andrew, and was aimed and creating mass confusion in all humans who viewed it. The installation itself consisted of 9 TV’s stacked in a square, all programed to display reactive music on their screens, which in layman’s terms means that all the pretty shapes changed shape with the beat and tempo of the music. Fascinat- ing, captivating, mind-blowing? These words don’t even scratch the surface, so you’ll have to see for yourself. Part of what makes LTM so great is that we can embed all of our Artist’s electronic format material right into the issue, so click away fine user!

All in all, I am absolutely grateful for even having the opportunity to see Andrew Hylynsky’s lab, art and work. This truly was an experience to hold and relish forever, and I will.
