LTM: Being recent college graduates and/or of the early 20s age range, what experiences inspired the lyrical content on Places We’d Imagine? IM: Being broke as hell and underemployed. Dealing with that frustration leads to me thinking about the economy, politics (ugh), society and whatnot. So there’s some criticism of how shallow our generation is, there’s some concerns about the future, relying too heavily on other people and inevitably being disappointed, as well as some references to more specific events which I’d rather keep vague to protect the guilty. I also can only speak for myself, (guest rapper) Tee Kay wrote his part in “Find My Way Again” though it’s essentially his take on the themes I discuss in the rest of the song.

LTM: Philly or Boston? IM: Philly almost all the time. If you prefer a city to be fun rather than clean, Philly is the place to be. As long as you know where you are and stay out of certain neighborhoods...Boston does have its perks though. It’s cleaner, and easier to live in without a car. But Philadelphia’s way more laid back, which is not something New England really is known for. And the food is better in Philly, if you don’t mind eating red meat.

LTM: How did hook up with Tee Kay and Cate Obert-Torn? Tey both bring something very unique to their respective guest appearances. (“Find My Way Again” and “Lonely Foxes”) IM: We’d known both of them from middle school. We really wanted some collaboration on the record in order to give the EP more variety, and to push ourselves creatively. I think it paid off, because those songs came together a lot more once we got their input. Obviously they are both really talented people; their parts didn’t take long at all to record. Tee Kay’s verse made me like “Find My Way Again” more from a lyrical perspective because he’s putting himself out there a whole lot. And Cate made “Lonely Foxes” a much more beautiful song with her piano playing and singing. She even gave me advice on how to sing better! Tey both write their own stuff too, so keep an eye out for both of them.

LTM: So, do you get the Inigo speech a lot? IM: Haha. Oh man, if I’d known... I like our band name a lot but it’s reached a point where we’ll tell someone the name, and we either get a blank stare or we get the “You Killed My Father” speech. Tere is no middle ground. Which is fine by me, but I don’t know how long it’ll be before I start to get sick of hearing it, and Mandy Patinkin’s voice starts haunting my dreams.
