COAST TO COAST Micah is an up and coming singer-songwriter, originally from Rochester, NY. From a
young age, he was learning to play Jimi Hendrix and John Mayer tunes. His musical influences run the gamut from Stevie Wonder and Sam Cooke to Bon Iver and Grace Potter, with much more in between. Since age 16, he’s been steadily gigging, starting off in the coffeehouse scene and now headlining shows at clubs and colleges throughout the country. Spending the last four years living in Boston, Micah earned his degree in Music Business from Northeastern Univer- sity. Micah also recently completed an independently funded and booked fall and spring tour behind his Coast to Coast EP, spending the better part of the year on the road. Functioning as his own tour manager, promoter, and publicist, Micah used the album as a calling card to get shows and to pass along to friends and peers.
A year later, the singer-songwriter has settled into the record and is now putting
together a fall tour to further support Coast to Coast. Hitting the Northeast, Midwest, South, and possibly West Coast, the tour will focus mostly on college shows. Once those shows are booked, Micah will “fill in the holes with club and house shows to round out the tour, probably doing some runs with other singer-songwriters as well.” Overall, he plans to build off his recent spring tour and the groundwork he’s laid down from the past year to take his music to another level.
Micah utilizes a tried-and-true grassroots word-of-mouth campaign to get his music to
the masses. Performing whenever he can to as many people as possible, the singer-songwriter gives away free CDs in many situations. Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud, YouTube, even MySpace; you name it, he uses it. At the top of his list? Booking shows. “It’s the most important thing to do. Once I’ve got a quick list of initial shows confirmed and announced, it becomes much easier to get in touch with any and all forms of media (college radio, blogs, magazines, etc).”
In the coming months, Micah will also re-enter the studio with a handful of new songs
that he’s been touring with. The EP will be a scaled-back effort, and will utilize a digital, pay- what-you-want format. On the topic, Micah states, “for about $50 you can pay for your album to be distributed on iTunes through Tunecore. Would you have seen that 5-7 years ago? Maybe, maybe not. The great thing is that there are choices and opportunities for artists to seize and take advantage of to grow their fan base. Good music will sell itself when it’s put out there.”
With a new EP in the works and a new tour on the way, we felt the timing was right to share this talented artist with you.
