Running for Life Will

Clayton felt inspired to run the race of his life after

After weeks of training Will, 34, is taking part in the London Marathon this month to raise money for Kidney Research UK.

It's a cause close to his heart because Will's wife Vicky had a kidney and pancreas transplant in December 2009 following a number of years of kidney failure and diabetes.

Although he's obviously happy that Vicky's poor health is largely behind her, Will can still vividly recall the tough times including the days immediately after his wife's eight-hour operation.

He said: "Vicky got the call that she had an organ match just a week before Christmas and had to rush into Guy's Hospital.

Story by Matthew Bell

"It was very frightening but the surgery went well. Afterwards she felt really ill so Christmas Day in 2009 was not at all pleasant.

"Having said that, the transplant was definitely the best Christmas present we've ever had.

Now,

one year on we can also start our dream of having a family, something that was not possible pre- transplant."

Of his first marathon, Will added: "Last year I had the silly thought that I could do it, after watching friends run over the past few years. I never thought that I'd get a place, but now I can't wait for the big day to arrive."

With three million people in the UK affected by kidney disease and 90 per

cent of the organ donor list waiting for a kidney, Will is hoping you will sponsor him (however small your donation).

Royal Pre-Schools seeks new logo In

the summer of 1971, Royal Eltham pre-school first opened

its doors to a group of under fives. Since then literally thousands of children have stepped over its threshold into a world of learning through play. Surprisingly several of the then pre-schoolers have since returned with their own offspring to begin the journey again.

Whilst trends in education and provision for young children have come and gone, Royal Eltham Pre-school has remained and continues to be a thriving place where little people learn, play and make friends.

Royal Eltham pre-school is delighted to be celebrating its fortieth anniversary this year. To mark the occasion they want a new logo to be designed. They would love the creativity that used to be displayed through painting and model making at preschool to be put into practice once again!

So young and old put your pen to paper and design a new logo for them.

A prize will be awarded to the winning entry.

Entries should be either sent by post to:

Royal Eltham Pre-school St Luke’s Church Hall Westmount Road Eltham SE91XX

Or emailed to : royalelthampre-school@hotmail.co.uk

CLOSING DATE 10th May 2011

The winner will be announced in the June edition of SEnine and the winner invited to receive their prize at the anniversary open day that month. Website: royalelthampre-school.org.uk
