Big Ben Goes Digital

April 1st 1980: The BBC reported that Big Ben, in order to keep up with the times, was going to be given a digital readout. The announcement received a huge response from listeners shocked and angered by the proposed change. The BBC Japanese service also announced that the clock hands would be sold to the first four listeners to contact them. One Japanese seaman in the mid- Atlantic immediately radioed in a bid.

replaced now by a

burning desire to find the right girl and settle down. When his fiancee leaves him standing at the altar, he becomes a wedding planner's worst nightmare, taking out his bitterness on stage until his eye -and heart -turn to a new friend, Julia, but she's engaged to a wealthy Wall Street broker. Fortune intervenes to help them discover each other.

Anything Goes, with music and lyrics by Cole Porter is a madcap adventure set aboard an ocean liner in the 1930’s. The SS American, sailing from New York to London, carries an unusual group of passengers: included amongst them are Moonface Martin, a gangster; Hope, a wealthy debutante; night club singer, Reno Sweeny; a wealthy business man, Eli- sha Witney and his stowaway assistant Billy Crocker. Billy is head-over-heels in love with Hope, but she is engaged to someone else! Billy needs the help of Reno and Moonface if he is to win Hope back before the liner docks. Full of toe-tapping numbers such as, ‘You’re the Top’, ‘I Get a Kick Out of You’, ‘You’re Delovely’ and the title song ‘Anything Goes’, this is a popular show set to raise the spirits and send the audience home singing the show stopping songs.

So book your tickets and welcome aboard. Be a good neighbour
