Not to be Missed Music

A varied and entertaining month is in prospect at the Bob Hope Theatre in April.

is the mainstay of the offering, from

the 1940s to the present day. The four shows offer something for everybody.

But behind the fun, fear stalks. The Bob Hope’s own team are finalising preparations for ‘Dracula’, which plays at the Wythfield Road theatre for four nights in early May.

Before leaving the stage clear for the darkest of all horror stories, there is a variety of classical light entertainment.

Starting off April with a swing is the popular Shane Hampsheir, whose last show at the Bob Hope in December was a complete sell-out.

On April 6 – 9, Bromley Players present ‘The Wedding Singer’, a musical comedy based on the Adam Sandler film. The show encompasses all the great jokes and songs you’d expect from the company, with large company dance numbers. The storyline revolves around the singer of a wedding band, whose romantic ambitions become intertwined with his on-stage performances with drastic and amusing results.

Capping off the Springtime funtime is a welcome return from ‘The Swing Commanders’ on April 17, heading towards a sell-out for their Sunday night concert. Featuring SE9’s own Siena Lloyd, daughter of Greenwich Concert Band conductor Chris, a bewildering array of instruments is employed to conjure up the spirit of 30s, 40s and 50s. This mixed boy and girl sextet are the cats with the cream of the swing classics and are returning after touring the world.

Sit back and have fun while you can. May is coming in like a lamb to the slaughter; the living-dead, the mad and the innocent take to the stage for an adaptation by Jane Thornton of Bram Stocker’s ever popular spine-tingling Dracula, on stage from May 4 – 7.

CULTURAL ELTHAM

This is followed by two musicals, one from the 1990s, the other traditional 1950s.

This time, he teams up with Tucker on April 2 for an evening of comedy and song. Titled ‘Simply Entertaining’ the Shane and Tucker show provides a Mother’s Day treat aimed at leaving its audience thoroughly entertained.

Following on the next week, Sidcup Operatic Society takes to

the

transatlantic waves for that most popular of Cole Porter musicals, ‘Anything Goes’. Playing for four nights, with a Saturday afternoon matinee, the Society surfs its way through the classic tunes, including the title number, ‘I Get A Kick Out of You’, ‘You’re De-Lovely’ and ‘You’re the Top’. It’s a show to raise the spirits and guaranteed to send audiences home with a humm.
