Erwin Hills Stone House offers fresh, homecooked delights

husband and wife team who of- fer something different at their restaurant. The two have helped evolve the cozy confines of The Stone House Market from a deli to a fine-dining establishment since opening six years ago. The building, located at 301
Old Leicester Highway, was orig- inally constructed as a Shell gas station in 1934. Probably best known for the television repair shop that called the stone struc- ture home for almost 40 years, the Rogers refurbished the space while keeping the architectural nuances that define the building. There are 10 tables with the ca- pacity to seat about 30 people. “I had my first restaurant when I was 10. I served the swim
team pancakes out of my moth- er’s kitchen and charged them a quarter a plate,” joked Dan. He grew up in the industry and with a family who enjoyed food. His grandmother also owned a res- taurant. Debbie, who is the restaurant’s
entire wait staff, is no stranger to serving people with her retail background. “Debbie knows our customers. She knows many of their names, where they like to be seated and the type of wine they drink,” said Dan. The couple op- erated a larger, 100-seat restaurant and inn in Tryon before opening The Stone House Market. There is not a printed menu,
but a chalkboard lists the en- trees Dan creates each week. Everything is made fresh and from scratch. “The menu always has some type of pork, chicken, steak, pasta and seafood,” said
