Sensory Benefits of DuPont™


Glypure®


Four tresses of bleached Caucasian hair were used for the study. One was treated with a lower end commercial conditioner, one was treated with a higher end commercial conditioner, one was treated with a starting point formulation containing DuPont™


Glypure® , and one was left untreated as a


control. The treated samples were wetted with de-ionized (DI) water, the conditioner was massaged into the hair for 30 seconds then the tresses were rinsed with DI water for 30 seconds. The control tress was wetted for 30 seconds. All samples were allowed to air dry and were brushed. Several samples of each treatment were prepared as to avoid a build up of oil from the participants’ hands. Hair tresses were designated only as #1, 2, 3, and 4, without identifying conditioner treatment type, and the participants were asked to touch and feel each tress and choose the one they preferred and felt the best to them. The results were separated by gender and the participant’s comments were noted.


Of the 18 people surveyed, 50% preferred the starting point formulation containing DuPont™ Glypure®


, 28% preferred the higher end commercial


conditioner, 11% preferred the low end commercial conditioner, and 11% preferred the untreated sample, as summarised in the table below. For the total population of the panel, the DuPont™

A panel study was conducted to compare two conditioners currently on the market with a starting point formulation containing DuPont™


. This study was


conducted in order to confirm human perception of the conditioning benefits described in its companion manuscript on the benefits of DuPont™

provides evidence for preference over the high end commercial conditioner, the panel was too small to prove statistical significance. 71% of female participants preferred the starting point formulation containing DuPont™ Glypure®


while 29% preferred the high end


commercial conditioner. 36% of male participants preferred the starting point formulation containing DuPont™

27% preferred the high end commercial conditioner, 18% preferred the low end conditioner, and 18% preferred the untreated sample. Some of the men noted that #2 (starting point formulation containing DuPont™

softer and #1 (high end commercial conditioner) and #4 (low end commercial conditioner) felt rougher / coarser.


Some of the women noted that they immediately disliked #4 (low end commercial product). #2 (starting point formulation containing DuPont™ Glypure®


) felt softer and was consistently smooth
