New natural vegetable petrolatum replacement

The International Group (IGI) has introduced a new ingredient for the personal care industry called Sebapet. Sebapet is a natural vegetable petrolatum replacement. The product utilises a unique combination of vegetable oils which mimic the fatty acids and esters found in natural skin sebum. Sebapet also uses a natural gelling technology which has not been incorporated into a petrolatum replacement before. This technology enables Sebapet to maintain its integrity when used in emulsion systems.

Sebapet has significantly different aesthetics than conventional petrolatums but still maintains occlusive properties. Sebapet is suitable for applications in creams, lotions, lip care products, body washes and many other applications where petrolatum properties are required but a natural product is necessary.

The International Group (IGI), Stand Q11 Hallstar acquires BioChemica

The HallStar Company has acquired BioChemica International, a leading supplier of exotic butters and oils for use in personal care products. The acquisition represents a strong move into the burgeoning natural and organic personal care products market. The industry recorded $3.8 billion in sales in 2009, boasting a 14% compound annual growth rate from 2003 to 2009. “Based on marketplace trends and our current position as a

provider of innovative personal care ingredients, expanding into the Naturals space is a logical move that will help us better serve our customers while also delivering profitability,” said John Paro, HallStar Chairman, President and CEO. “HallStar and BioChemica enjoy, quite literally, great chemistry. Together we will make a market impact well beyond what either of us could accomplish individually.”

The HallStar Company, Stand G50 Stabilize formulations the natural way

Shelf stability of cosmetic preparations is jeopardized by microbial growth and oxidation. Recent trends in the industry reveal a focus on natural compounds such as preservatives in cosmetics. Natural alternatives derived from botanicals are therefore being explored continually by researchers at Sabinsa. Sabinsa presents two patent pending multifunctional compositions comprising essential oils and fatty acid fractions from botanicals that effectively inhibit oxidative and microbial degradation of cosmetic formulations. SabiLize Alpha combines carefully fractionated supercritical carbon dioxide extracts of cinnamon, clove, lemongrass, Garcinia indica, coconut and thyme to produce a non-irritant composition that at 0.5% w/w in colour cosmetics effectively inhibits microbial growth and oxidative deterioration. SabiLize Beta is a similar composition that is useful in colour free cosmetics.
