Supergrains for cosmetics
Symrise is expanding its portfolio of Healthy Grains natural grain extracts. There are now eleven grain varieties available to the cosmetics industry. In addition to traditional varieties such as oat, wheat and white rice, Symrise is also focusing on old, forgotten “supergrains” such as amaranth, quinoa, and khorasan wheat. They are not only valued for their nurturing, skin- rejuvenating, and elasticity-enhancing qualities, but are also synonomous with the essence of healthy and natural living.
The possible applications for the Extrapone® Healthy Grains are virtually unlimited as the extracts
can be used in facial, eye, and hand care products, cleansers, shower gels, shampoo and hair styling products, to name a few. All the extracts are water-soluble and can easily be used in cosmetic consumer products. They do not affect the fragrance or the opacity of the final product and are compatible with all prevalent raw materials utilized in cosmetic products.
Symrise AG, Stand R40 New production method cuts costs
A new procedure developed by GLACONCHEMIE allows the production of glycerine carbonate and isopropylidene glycerine on a multi ton scale at competitive prices.
Biogenic pharmaceutical glycerine serves as the raw material source, which GLACONCHEMIE obtains from sustainable resources. The innovative production method influences the price of the glycerine derivatives, which for the first time lies within a competitive range. With the two glycerine derivatives GLACONCHEMIE supports the idea of ‘Green Chemistry’ while the biogenic portion of glycerine carbonate is already at around 80%, the company was able to increase the biogenic part of isopropylidene glycerine to 100%. This means the product is of entirely natural origin.
