Training Clinics with Isla Bennett

WELL known international 4 star event rider, Isla Bennett is running a series of clinics over the forthcoming months at her base, Woodhouse Farm, Tutbury in Staffordshire. They will offer flatwork sessions and show jumping training as well as cross-country techniques in the outdoor arena.

Said Isla: “We now have wonderful facilities. I have trained with some great people both for dressage and jumping and enjoy passing on this knowledge.”

cross country, as well as dressage highlights and the show-jumping finale.

The fiftieth annual Burghley Horse Trials attracted world class riders from thirteen countries and all five continents. After a challenging Dressage test, Ruth Edge on Two Thyme led the way, followed closely by Caroline Powell on Lenamore and defending champion, Oliver Townend on Carousel Quest.

Powell then produced a foot perfect round to take the lead in the cross country. In the Show-jumping phase, despite challenges from Mary King on Apache Sauce, Oliver Townend on Carousel Quest and William Fox-Pitt on Macchiato, Caroline, riding 17-year-old Lenamore, forged a foot perfect round to claim her first major title, much to the delight of the appreciative crowd.

Presented by Clare Balding. Approximately 113 mins.

This fantastic DVD is now available from www. equestrianvision.co.uk, RRP £16.99.

Fun Pink Charity Night at Trentvalley At Trentvalley we are always

trying to find ways of raising money for charity and last month we held a Pink Friday Night in aid of breast cancer. We organised a fun class which involved the quickest round of set fences and fancy dress with a pink theme, it was very entertaining as we watched pink horses with pink riders whizz around the course.

Farewell to Newton Cross-Country’s Carole Fisher’s Percy

Percy was born near Waterford in Southern Ireland and was brought over to England by Barbara Rich who sold him to Joyce Lomas (Clare’s Mum) as a 4 year old. Joyce brought him on until he went to the Lesley Family in Lincolnshire.

When their son Ben gave up competing he was given to Stuart Buntine to sell for the family. A phone call came from Stuart after a day’s hunting on Percy with the South Notts. in Derbyshire to say he had a nice horse in for sale, a real gentleman but a bit strong! It took 2 years to find the right bit to hold him in out hunting but with me thinking I was in charge and Percy knowing he was really we had many happy years hunting with the South Notts.

Percy also enjoyed dressage competitions and the judges often commented on the bottom of the sheet “ What a lovely horse!” “Such a nice horse”. He would politely go around the dressage arena on Sundays in his snaffle and then on

Pony Club etc. We aim to provide for every competitor and their needs. Please see our website for schedules of events.

Many thanks to Cobbs Country Store, Forrest Feeds, Spillers, Dodson and Horrell for the prizes and Showstoppers Direct for sponsoring the rosettes.

THE SATNAV WITH A HORSE TRAILER ON THE BACK!

The UK’s growing equestrian industry can now benefit from an improved satellite navigation service from Navevo aimed squarely at drivers of horse- boxes, trailers and commercial vehicles. The new ProNav PNN300, incorporating the new ProNav Dimension™ software, includes features designed specifically for long vehicles or those with large trailers, making it easier for the equestrian community to navigate the UK countryside.

ProNav PNN300 Marketing director David Guiver commented, “We offer a solution that’s perfectly suited to the equestrian industry in the UK, with the most up to date software on our GPS units that will ensure hassle-free transportation for horse-riders and equestrians across the country.”

The navigation system also uses UK wide historic HGV traffic data to provide more accurate journey times and estimated times of arrival, ensuring drivers don’t arrive late to race meetings or point to points.

The ProNav PNN300 incorporates another truck navigation ‘market first’ which is its ‘Dynamic ETA™’ feature. Historically navigation

Monday he would turn his cap sideways like a naughty school boy and hurtle around the countryside in his American gag. In the early summer we used to go on trail riding holidays with Jane Brazier and her horse Ginny. We enjoyed the South Downs, the Cotswolds and Oxfordshire and The North Yorkshire Moors. Percy was quite happy to carry all the luggage in saddlebags and accept any of the unusual overnight accommodation that was offered to us on our journeys. He did however find sinking into a bog up to his belly, during a day when 2 inches of rain fell on the moors, a step too far. He spent the rest of the day very subdued as did his rider who had baled out when we began to sink.

systems have provided relatively inaccurate, unreliable journey times for stimated times of arrival (ETAs). Using historic traffic information sourced from real-time floating vehicle data, the PNN300 can analyse the day and time of travel and calculate an accurate ETA based on actual large vehicle traffic speeds at that time. For example, a journey on the M25 during Monday morning’s rush hour will provide a much longer ETA than exactly the same journey conducted during lunchtime.

Unique ProNav PNN300 features include: • Navevo’s new ProNav Dimension™ software for fast calculation of routes incorporating NAVTEQ Transport data covering height, weight, width and other restrictions to optimise your routes across the UK, whether for a single trailer box, or large commercial equine transport

• Exclusive point of interest data such as London loading bays, as well as HGV petrol stations and truck stops (suitable for large equestrian vehicles)

• Dynamic ETA™ using real-time floating vehicle data from Journey Dynamics™ helping provide better fuel efficiency and improved time and journey management

• ERN data for London based companies and professional drivers to circumnavigate route restrictions such as the London

For 4 years Percy enjoyed a partnership with Andrea Leonard and they hunted, competed in dressage and TREC competitions and joined a team chasing team although after the latter event it took Andrea’s arms 3 days to recover. Percy’s last outing was hunting on Boxing Day from Car Colston in 2008 before Andrea retired to have a baby. Since then he has been enjoying life in the field with his friend Edward. Percy died peacefully on the farm after a short illness and will be sadly missed. A big thank you must go to Lynne Mabbitt of White Barn Equine Clinic and Andrew Speck, Percy’s farrier for all their care and support.
