A beautiful new ride to enjoy ~ introducing the Lindsey Trail and schoolchildren enjoy this course ~ it beats maths!

LEICESTERSHIRE & RUTLAND SCHOOLS COMPETITION Vale View Equestrian Centre hosted the second Leicestershire & Rutland Schools Show Jumping Competition on 16th October. The LEA County Sports Development managers sent details to all the schools in the two counties, and information was also available on the www.lrsec.co.uk website. The competition was kindly sponsored by Uppingham Community College, The British Horse Society, Don Paddy’s in Uppingham and ‘Joules’ clothing. This year two more classes were introduced and teams and individuals representing 21 schools from around the counties took part in the four classes of this two-phase show jumping competition.

In

addition, a Clear Round Jumping course was run by the BHS Leicestershire & Rutland Committee.

The organisers were delighted that so many schools took part. The course builder, Caroline Moore built an inviting but challenging course. Loughborough Endowed Schools had a very successful day winning with teams in Classes 1, 2 & 4 and having an individual winner with Liberty Bramhall in Class 2. The Class 1 Individual winner was Fahrran Griffiths from Shepshed High School. Class 3 was won by the team from Belvoir High School, with Jess Walker and Hannah Dury also from Belvoir taking the individual prizes in Classes 3 & 4 respectively. Further competitions are planned next year in conjunction with the NSEA and will take place in Leicestershire & Rutland, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire.

NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE On 16th October at the Robin Hood Country and Game Fair, the BHS North Lincolnshire committee made a presentation of a cheque for £1000 to support the Lindsey Trail. This is a 75-mile circular multi-user trail which will be for horse riders, carriage drivers, cyclists and walkers. This will cover a route around the Wolds area of natural beauty using bridleways, farm tracks and quiet country lanes. A grand opening is planned when all the signage is completed in the new year.

Use is to be available to all non-motorised users including horse

and carriage drivers, horse-riders, cyclists and walkers. One of the main aims for its establishment is to enable family members, friends and the physically restricted to safely access together some of Lincolnshire’s finest countryside. The project has been intentionally developed for the benefit of both the local community and visitors to the area; and it is also envisaged that its use will promote local businesses offering food, accommodation and horse stabling.

A number of groups and organisations have contributed a large

amount of time over the past two years, identifying and planning a suitable route for those wanting to cover both long and short distances, and the project is also supported by the Wolds AONB Countryside Service, Mid Lincolnshire Access Forum and Lincolnshire County Council. Over a thousand signatures supporting the venture were obtained at the Lincolnshire Show; and development of the trail also meets the aims and objectives of the Lincolnshire Countryside Access and Rights or Way Improvement Plan, and the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Management Plan.
