Wellow Park dressage in
Jenni Woolgar on India
October Photos by Louise Graham & Zoe Molesworth
Rosemary Morris rode Kitza for Celia Franks and this young horse is coming on well. Judy Youdan also had her young horse there; Judy and Rosemary are both long term members of East Midlands Dressage Group and highly experienced competitors and trainers. Wellow Park’s own Jenni Woolgar on India came second in a class for the home side. The very smart Tommy won the Intro in fine style for Wendy Swales and Rak came second with Catherine Woodhouse. The judge was Mr David Daykin. Unfortunately the November competition had to be cancelled due to insufficient entries; however it was extremely wet and windy leading up to the date. Wellow Park holds its dressage competitions indoors with outdoor warm-up on all- weather surfaces. Wellow is near Ollerton and Newark.

something not many of us expect to achieve. There are plenty of good diagrams and the explanations are easy to understand. There are also the problems that most of us seem to come across explained. The book has some super photos and is definitely one to have on the shelf.
Kottas on Dressage by Arthur Kottas-Heldenberg with Julie Rowbotham Published by the Kenilworth Press RRP £25.
This is a very comprehensive book, beginning with the rider their
position, which bits to relax, how to do sitting trot etc. Starting the young horse and the importance of working the horse on the ground, lunging, long-reining, then progressing to ridden work and right up to passage and piaffe,
I did find out about a training aid that the lady I bought my Medium horse, Ollie, from described but no-one I asked had ever heard of; this was the running side-rein that Arthur Kottas used to lunge in and I have mackled one up of my own and I will be using it on my 3-year-oldCally, next week, all being well! I am going to fetch Cally back as he has been backed and ridden away so we will see how I get on now.”

Stephen Clarke’s Dressage Dreams opens up the world of dressage by taking the reader from the spectacular performances of the arena to behind the scenes, to stable and home to capture a unique look at what it really takes to reach the top of this beautiful sport. The record-breakers are included such as Totilas and Mistral Hojris, the current world champions Salinero and Satchmo, plus the gone-but- not-forgotten legends Ferro, Farbenfroh and many others.
Dressage Dreams bridges the gap between a technical teaching book and a beautiful picture book using more than 200 stunning images throughout its 208 pages. This book will interest a wide audience - from experienced dressage riders who want to know how the top riders train and prepare for big International competitions to those readers who simply love to look at the grace, elegance and power of beautiful horses in motion. The Spanish Riding School of Vienna announce their 60th
international tour in 2011 with only three London dates – Wembley Arena, London: Friday 25th Nov 2011 – 8pm Saturday 26th Nov 2011 – 8pm Sunday 27th Nov 2011 – 3pm.
So tickets for this exclusive event are the ‘must-have’ Christmas gift this year. It is 5 years since the majestic, highly-trained horses and riders of the 430-year-old ‘High School for Classical Horsemanship’ have graced the halls of the UK. Their new show ‘Imperial Dream’ sees an impressive display of classical equitation in the Renaissance tradition of the haute école. Marvel
and clearly see the excellent printing from one of Italy’s finest colour printers.
The book is divided into chapters, one for each of the Grand Prix movements. A top International rider and their talented mount demonstrate each movement using breathtaking photography from some of the best in the business. The author gives his technical account ‘from the judge’s box’ of what he looks for. Rider and trainer then explain what inspired them to take up this sport, their training techniques and their most memorable test. A closer look at the equine partner including its pedigree, competition record and daily routine concludes the chapter.
Not forgetting the youngest participants on the FEI ladder to success, Stephen has
included four of the most famous ponies in the history of Pony international dressage, Dornik B, Dulcia, Deinhard B and Konrad.
