As complex as it is, it needs to be carefully planned and the components designed to work together. The goal is to achieve the greatest possible result in order to create long lasting, energy efficient homes. Everything starts with the building shell, because it doesn’t matter how efficient a home’s components are if we cannot contain the environment that is created. This course will discuss the components of the building shell, how they work together, and how to improve our building shell. Topics Covered: The drainage plane Tightly sealing the building shell Mechanical ventilation Insulation and foam sealing Mechanical systems And how they all work together ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Clayton Morris has been involved in the residential building industry for more than eight years. His involvement has been expanded past the energy portion and has included the code compliance and engineering verification of a home. He is a Certified Residential Combination Inspector (Plumbing, Electrical, Structural, and Mechanical), Quality Assurance Designee, Water Sense Quality Assurance Designee, and Residential Energy Inspector/Plans Examiner, Master Certified EFL, and a Registered Industrialized Housing and Buildings Third Party Site Inspector for Residential Construction.

His professional NAHB designations include Certified Green Professional and a Certified Graduate Builder. He is a construction trainer and has taught many NAHB classes and OSHA safety courses.

CONTENT: The EPA now requires anyone who is paid to perform work that disturbs paint in housing and child-occupied facilities built before 1978 to be trained as certified renovators and follow prescribed lead-safe work practices. The EPA is authorized to enforce penalties of up to $37,500 per violation, per day. After attending this course, you will be able to: Describe lead-related health problems, why it's a problem, and who is at risk Recognize EPA and HUD rules required of Certified Firms and Renovators Determine if lead-based paint affects your work, and how to educate customers about how the work will affect their property
Properly set up work area so lead dust/debris don't contaminate the property Identify how to work in a lead-safe manner, what practices are prohibited by EPA and/or HUD rules, and information on personal protective equipment
Effectively clean up dust generated by the work performed, conduct a cleaning verification, dispose of renovation waste
Indicate requirements for creating and maintaining documentation of work. Train non-certified renovation workers in lead safe practices while on the job.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND? General contractors, remodelers, painters, plumbers, carpenters, electricians, HVAC contractors, window replacement companies, and anyone working in pre-1978 housing and child-occupied facilities.
