fundraising effort sponsored by the GHBA called the Benefit Homes Project. Each year two to three luxury homes are built for the project with products and services that are donated by GHBA members. These homes are sold at market value and the majority of the proceeds benefit three Houston charities—Texas Children’s Cancer Center, the Alzheimer’s Association and HomeAid Houston. Since the project began 30 years ago, $6 million has been raised.

The luncheon was held at the newly completed Benefit Home that was built in Discovery at Spring Trails. Land Tejas Cos. donated the homesite, the company’s 12th donation over the history of the project. Westin built its Valencia Plan, a 3,654 sq. ft. two-story that features three bedrooms and 3.5 baths. There are two formals, a gourmet island kitchen with a breakfast area, a large private master suite with a sitting area and a huge walk-in closet. The entry hall features a graceful curving staircase complete with curved banister. The utility room adjoins the master for convenience. A large game room and separate media room are located on the second floor.

Appreciation awards were presented to the vendors and trades by Patrick Mayhan, purchasing manager for Westin Homes. Jason Golan, Westin’s general manager, thanked the donors and introduced the Westin staff members who assisted in completing the home. Al Brende with Land Tejas, Toy Wood, CEO of the GHBA, and representatives of the three charities also addressed guests thanking them for their contributions. Allpoints Surveying donated and served the food for the guests.
