The AmSafe® Aviation Inflatable Restraint (AAIR®) is an innovative airbag system which has been in service since 2001, and looks and operates much like a standard AmSafe seatbelt. Certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for installation on commercial and general aviation aircraft, this airbag system is specifically designed to improve occupant protection from serious head impact injury during an otherwise survivable aircraft accident. The AAIR system is built into the lap belt portion of the seatbelt and deploys up and away from the occupant—thus, meeting the upcoming 16g safety standard.
